Introduction


GAME TITLE

What Lies Beneath (working title, can be utilized as either the main title or in place of a mission/chapter for a fully-fledged game).

HIGH CONCEPT

What Lies Beneath is a Single Player 3rd Person Twin Stick Shooter combined with Survival Horror and Building Escape elements. The main goal of the player is to fight their way out of a secret underground lab facility and successfully escape alive. The player will combat against oncoming waves of laboratory test subjects, destroying the sinister organization’s creations and facility in the process towards finding an exit.

Story


PLOT

Within the world of What Lies Beneath there is a benevolent figurehead of a giant network corporation who is advertising data chip implantations which will allow for seamless integration between the hosts’ mind and the grand network (to allow for advanced thought processing and intelligence). However, the true intentions of this data chip are to connect all those who undergo the procedure to submit complete control over to the corporation network as a servant to this neural hive mind. To put a stop to this madness, an internal team of scientists within the organization (who do not agree with the figurehead’s ideals) have developed a modified data chip in secret with hopes of implanting someone who can help their cause. The one who is implanted with this chip is the only hope for defeating this organization from the inside out. Only they can truly discover and destroy what lies beneath (within the secret underground lab facility in which these experiments and procedures are taking part).

STORY VEHICLES

The main story vehicle utilized within What Lies Beneath will be the use of a slideshow-cutscene which will occur at the beginning of the game. This slideshow-cutscene will act as a prologue story that will provide the player with some insight to:

The Game World


TRAINING

The player begins the game within a smaller level that is designed as a tutorial. Throughout the level the player will get familiarized with the controls of moving, shooting, jumping, and activating an Augment Chip weapon ability. The player will be instructed by the A.I. within their tampered data chip that they were implanted with. Once the main objectives for completing each gameplay mechanic are met, the player is allowed to leave and begin play in the first level.

MAP/LAYOUT

After the tutorial level has been completed, the player will move through a series of 3 levels with each one having an inherent difficulty of easy, medium, and hard as the player progresses.

PLAYER EXPERIENCE

The player experience throughout the game should have the player feeling overwhelmed with a sense of pressure on how to escape. We want to the experience to mimic that of a survival horror scenario for which the player will use every tool at their disposal to try and find a way to escape certain doom.

PLAYER CHARACTER END GOAL

The end goal of the player is to successfully escape the series of levels (floors) and to make it out of the underground lab facility alive.
